Cyclone Alert: IMD Predicts Heavy Rain for Andaman & Nicobar Islands
Cyclone Threat: Heavy Rain Forecast for Andaman & Nicobar

The India Meteorological Department has issued a significant weather warning for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, predicting heavy rainfall and squally conditions that could potentially develop into a cyclone next week.

Weather System Intensification

According to the IMD's latest assessment, a low-pressure area has formed over the south Andaman Sea near the Strait of Malacca. This weather system is expected to follow a west-northwestward trajectory, intensifying into a depression by November 22 and positioning itself over the southeast Bay of Bengal.

The meteorological office indicates that the system will continue moving in the same direction while gaining strength, eventually prevailing over the southwest Bay of Bengal around November 26. Weather experts are closely monitoring the situation and cannot rule out the possibility of cyclone formation as the system undergoes further intensification.

Rainfall and Wind Patterns

The approaching weather system will bring moderate intensity rainfall to the islands until Sunday. However, conditions are expected to deteriorate significantly early next week.

The Nicobar Islands will experience increased rainfall activity, with the IMD issuing warnings for heavy to very heavy rainfall between 105 to 204 mm within 24 hours on November 24 and 25. This substantial precipitation could lead to flooding and disruption in the affected areas.

Wind patterns will also see considerable changes. Squally weather with wind speeds reaching 35 to 45 km per hour, gusting up to 55 km per hour, is likely to persist until Sunday. As the system intensifies, wind speeds are projected to increase gradually, potentially reaching up to 65 km per hour by November 25.

Safety Advisories and Precautions

In response to the developing weather situation, the IMD has issued crucial safety advisories for maritime activities. Fishermen have been strongly warned against venturing into the Andaman Sea and southwest Bay of Bengal until November 25.

Additionally, the advisory extends to the southeast Bay of Bengal, where fishing activities should be avoided until November 28 due to expected dangerous sea conditions. Residents and visitors in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are advised to stay updated with the latest weather bulletins and take necessary precautions as the situation evolves.

The IMD continues to monitor the system closely and will provide regular updates as new developments occur in the coming days.
