Goa Weather: Panaji & Mormugao See Cooler Temperatures

Residents and tourists in Goa experienced a noticeable dip in temperatures on Friday, with weather observatories in Panaji and Mormugao recording cooler than normal conditions, particularly during the night and early morning hours.

Temperature Details: A Significant Nighttime Drop

According to the latest observational data, the maximum daytime temperatures were close to the seasonal average. Panaji reported a maximum of 32 degrees Celsius, which was just one degree below the normal level for this time of year. Meanwhile, Mormugao recorded a maximum temperature of 32.4 degrees Celsius, aligning with the expected normal maximum.

However, the real story unfolded after sunset. Minimum temperatures took a sharp plunge below the usual markers at both coastal locations. Panaji's minimum settled at 18.1 degrees Celsius, marking a substantial departure of 2.2 degrees below the normal low. The drop was even more pronounced in Mormugao, where the mercury fell to 18.4 degrees Celsius, a significant 3.4 degrees below the normal minimum temperature.

Forecast: Dry and Hazy Conditions to Prevail

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) does not anticipate major changes in this pattern over the next 24 hours. The forecast predicts mainly clear skies across the region. Maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 32 degrees Celsius and 18 degrees Celsius respectively.

Looking ahead, the IMD has indicated that dry weather is very likely to continue over both North Goa and South Goa until the end of December. Furthermore, residents can expect shallow to moderate haze at isolated places during the early morning hours, a condition forecast to persist till December 31.

Key Weather Extremes Recorded

Analyzing Friday's data, the weather stations recorded specific extremes:

  • Highest Maximum Temperature: 32.4°C at Mormugao.
  • Lowest Minimum Temperature: 18.1°C at Panaji.

This cooler spell offers a respite from typically warm nights and highlights the ongoing winter conditions in the coastal state. The IMD's forecast suggests stable, dry, and slightly hazy weather will define the final days of the year for Goa.
