The Haryana government has intensified its disaster preparedness efforts ahead of the upcoming monsoon season. Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar chaired a high-level meeting to review the state's readiness to handle potential floods and other rain-related emergencies. The meeting was attended by senior officials from the revenue, irrigation, and disaster management departments.
Key Measures Announced
During the meeting, the Chief Minister directed officials to ensure that all control rooms are operational 24/7 and that rescue teams are deployed in vulnerable areas. He emphasized the need for timely coordination between district administrations and state agencies. The government has also identified low-lying areas prone to waterlogging and has pre-positioned pumps and other equipment.
Deployment of NDRF and SDRF Teams
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams have been put on high alert. Boats, life jackets, and other rescue equipment have been stocked in flood-prone districts. Additionally, helplines have been set up for citizens to report emergencies.
Monitoring of Dams and Rivers
The irrigation department has been instructed to monitor water levels in dams and rivers closely. The release of water from dams will be managed to prevent sudden flooding downstream. Farmers in low-lying areas have been advised to harvest their crops early if necessary.
The government also plans to conduct mock drills in vulnerable districts to test the response mechanism. Public awareness campaigns will be launched to educate people about safety measures during heavy rains. The Chief Minister urged citizens to cooperate with authorities and avoid spreading rumors.
