IMD Issues Forecast for Rising Temperatures in Gujarat
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released a weather update indicating a significant increase in maximum temperatures across Gujarat, including the city of Ahmedabad, over the coming days. According to the forecast issued on Sunday, a gradual rise of 2-3 degrees Celsius is expected in the region within the next 48 hours.
Specific Temperature Projections for Ahmedabad and Gujarat
In Ahmedabad, the maximum temperature is projected to reach 41 degrees Celsius. This follows Sunday's recorded maximum of 40.7°C, which was 1.3 degrees above the normal level for this time of year. The minimum temperature in the city was also elevated at 25.7°C, marking a 1.9-degree increase above normal.
Across Gujarat, similar trends are anticipated, with the IMD noting no significant changes expected after the initial 48-hour period.
Heat Wave Conditions in Kutch Region
The Kutch region has already been experiencing heat wave conditions, which were recorded on Sunday and are likely to persist into Monday. This development underscores the broader warming trend affecting the state.
Statewide Temperature Highlights from Sunday
On Sunday, several locations in Gujarat recorded high maximum temperatures:
- Rajkot: 41.7°C (highest in the state)
- Surendranagar: 41.4°C
- Ahmedabad, Bhuj, and Kandla: 40.7°C each
- Vadodara: 40.4°C
The IMD's forecast emphasizes the need for residents to take precautions against the rising heat, particularly in areas like Kutch where heat wave conditions are ongoing.
