Indore Night Temperature Doubles to 8.8°C in 3 Days, Offers Cold Respite
Indore's Night Temperature Rises to 8.8°C, Cold Eases

Residents of Indore woke up to a noticeable and welcome change in the weather over the past few days, as the biting cold of the early mornings significantly eased. The city witnessed a sharp and swift rise in its night temperature, which effectively doubled within a span of just three days, offering temporary relief from the intense winter chill.

Significant Rise in Minimum Temperature

The meteorological data reveals a dramatic shift. On December 19, the city shivered at a minimum temperature of 4.1 degrees Celsius. However, within three days, the mercury climbed to a more comfortable 8.8 degrees Celsius. This near-doubling of the night temperature brought palpable comfort during the late night and pre-dawn hours, which are typically the coldest. While winter clothing remained necessary, people heading out before sunrise found the chill to be far less severe and biting than previous days.

Daytime Conditions and Regional Contrast

The reprieve, however, was largely confined to the night and morning. During the day, patchy cloud cover limited sunshine, keeping the maximum temperature on the lower side and adding a hint of humidity to the air. The day's highest temperature was recorded at approximately 26.4 degrees Celsius, which is about one degree below the normal mark for this time of year.

Winds originating from the east and north-east directions occasionally picked up speed, reaching up to 17 kilometres per hour. These breezes helped keep shaded areas cool. Notably, the city remained free of fog during this period.

The situation presented a stark contrast across Madhya Pradesh. Meteorologist Arun Sharma from IMD Bhopal pointed out that while Indore and neighbouring Ujjain district continued to record temperatures one to three degrees below normal, several northern districts grappled with dense fog. Gwalior, Morena, Bhind, and Datia reported extremely low visibility in the mornings, disrupting road and rail movement. In eastern districts like Panna, Satna, Rewa, Sidhi, and Singrauli, fog conditions improved by late morning.

Short-Lived Relief with Colder Days Ahead

According to the weather department's forecast, the risen minimum temperature is expected to hold steady for the next two to three days. This offers a brief respite from the sharp cold nights experienced earlier in the month. However, the relief may be short-lived. The weatherman has cautioned that a fresh drop in temperatures is likely to commence from Friday, with colder conditions anticipated to persist towards the end of December.

No rainfall is predicted for the region in the coming days, and currently, no weather warning is in force for the Indore-Ujjain division. Residents are advised to enjoy the temporary warmth but prepare for the return of colder nights by the weekend.
