Lucknow Weather Alert: Thunderstorms and Hail Forecast for Weekend
The state meteorological department has issued a weather alert for parts of Uttar Pradesh, predicting gusty winds, thunderstorms, and possible hail on Saturday. In Lucknow, residents can expect a shift from clear morning skies to partly cloudy conditions by afternoon or evening, with light rain, thunder, and lightning likely to occur.
Meteorological Conditions and Predictions
Senior scientist Mohammad Danish from the state met department explained that the changing weather patterns are driven by a western disturbance over Pakistan and Afghanistan, combined with a cyclonic circulation over western Uttar Pradesh. This system is expected to bring light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and hail to some areas of the state.
Key weather elements forecasted include:
- Thundersquall with lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 50-60 kmph at a few locations.
- Hail at isolated places across the state.
- Gusty winds measuring between 40-50 km per hour in Lucknow, particularly on Sunday.
Temperature and Atmospheric Conditions
Despite the anticipated rainfall, there will be no significant change in temperatures. Instead, the weather is expected to turn sultry due to moisture incursion in the atmosphere. This follows Friday's conditions, where Lucknow woke up to cloudy skies and soothing winds, which cleared by afternoon.
Temperature readings from Friday:
- Maximum temperature: 35.9 degrees Celsius, which is 0.5 units below normal.
- Minimum temperature: 23.4 degrees Celsius, 4.9 notches above normal, attributed to cloudy skies preventing ground heat from escaping into the atmosphere at night.
Weekend Weather Outlook
The relief from the rain will be momentary, with partly cloudy skies and one or two spells of thunderstorms expected to continue on Sunday. Met officials emphasize that while the precipitation may provide brief respite, the overall sultry conditions will persist, making for an uncomfortable weekend for residents.
Authorities advise citizens to stay updated with weather forecasts and take necessary precautions during thunderstorms and gusty winds to ensure safety.
