Panaji and Mormugao Witness Temperature Surge Amid High Humidity Conditions
Over the past 24 hours, both Panaji and Mormugao in Goa have recorded significant rises in maximum and minimum temperatures, according to the latest observations from the India Meteorological Department (IMD). This weather shift has brought temperatures notably above their seasonal averages, accompanied by persistently high relative humidity levels at both locations.
Detailed Temperature Analysis for Panaji
In Panaji, the maximum temperature climbed to 34.4°C on Tuesday, which represents a substantial increase of 2°C above the normal level for this time of year. This marks a rise from the previous day's reading of 33.1°C, which was already 0.7°C above normal. Similarly, the minimum temperature in Panaji also showed an upward trend, reaching 25.1°C. This figure is 2.7°C above the seasonal average, up from 24.5°C recorded on Monday, which was 2.1°C above normal.
Temperature Trends in Mormugao
At the Mormugao observatory, similar patterns were observed. The maximum temperature increased to 32.6°C, approximately 0.8°C above normal, compared to 31.8°C the day before, which was at the normal level. The minimum temperature in Mormugao rose to 24.8°C, registering 1.7°C above normal. This is higher than the 24.4°C recorded on Monday, which was 1.3°C above normal.
Humidity Levels Remain Elevated
Relative humidity remained consistently high in both areas. Panaji recorded a humidity level of 75%, which is 12% above normal, slightly up from 74% the previous day. In Mormugao, the humidity was measured at 89%, a slight decrease from 90% on Monday but still 10% above the normal range. These elevated humidity levels contribute to the overall discomfort and muggy conditions experienced by residents.
Expert Insight on Temperature Rise
M R Ramesh Kumar, a meteorologist and retired scientist from the National Institute of Oceanography in Goa, provided insight into the causes behind this temperature surge. "The main reason for the substantial rise in both the maximum and minimum temperatures is the incoming solar radiation," he explained. "Only the pre-monsoon showers can reduce the temperature in the coming days." This statement highlights the seasonal factors at play and suggests that relief may depend on upcoming weather patterns.
The combined effect of rising temperatures and high humidity underscores the current climatic conditions in Goa, with implications for daily life and local ecosystems. Residents and visitors are advised to stay hydrated and take precautions against heat-related issues as these weather trends continue.
