Panaji's Cold Snap Eases: Temperature Rises After Season's Chilliest Day
Panaji temperature rises after coldest day of season

Residents of Panaji experienced a slight reprieve from the cold on Tuesday as the city's minimum temperature climbed, just two days after it recorded the chilliest day of the current season.

Temperature Trends in the Capital

The capital city of Goa had registered a sharp dip in temperature earlier, with the mercury dropping to a season's low of 17.1 degrees Celsius. However, on Tuesday, December 24, the city witnessed a modest increase. The minimum temperature rose by over a degree, settling at 18 degrees Celsius.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), similar conditions are expected to prevail on Christmas Day. The maximum temperature in Panaji on Tuesday was recorded at 32.2 degrees Celsius.

IMD's Forecast for Goa and Beyond

The weather office has provided a detailed outlook for the coming days. The forecast indicates that the minimum temperature in Panaji will range between 18-19 degrees Celsius until December 25. Subsequently, a slight rise is anticipated, with temperatures expected to hover between 19-20 degrees Celsius from December 26 to December 29.

In terms of weather conditions, Goa is likely to experience predominantly dry days. However, the IMD has predicted that shallow to moderate haze or mist is likely at isolated places during the early morning hours until December 29.

Regional Weather Systems in Play

The IMD is also monitoring larger weather systems that could influence conditions. A cyclonic circulation is currently present over south Tamil Nadu and nearby areas at an altitude of 1.5 km above mean sea level.

Furthermore, the department has issued a warning regarding a fresh feeble western disturbance likely to affect the western Himalayan region from December 27 onwards. While this system is not directly forecast to impact Goa significantly, it marks an active weather period for the subcontinent.

Meanwhile, other parts of Goa recorded varied temperatures. Mormugao reported the highest maximum temperature in the state at 34 degrees Celsius, with a minimum of 18.8 degrees Celsius.
