Pune Weather: Warmer Days Expected Until November End, IMD Explains
Pune to experience warmer days till November end

Pune Residents Brace for Extended Warm Spell

The city of Pune is experiencing an unexpected rise in temperatures during what is typically the cooler winter season. According to the latest forecasts from the India Meteorological Department, Pune will continue to experience warmer than usual days until the end of November, marking a significant shift from the colder conditions experienced earlier in the month.

Temperature Trends and Current Conditions

On Monday, the maximum temperature climbed to 32 degrees Celsius and is expected to remain in this range on Tuesday as well. The night temperatures have also shown a noticeable increase, reaching 17.4 degrees Celsius and likely to remain stable until Friday.

This warm spell represents a dramatic change from the weather patterns observed just days ago. On November 15, daytime temperatures had dropped to approximately 28 degrees Celsius, while nights had turned significantly colder with minimum temperatures hovering around 9 degrees Celsius on November 18 and 19. The warming trend began around November 20 and has continued since.

Meteorological Explanation Behind the Warming

Former head of weather forecasting at IMD, Anupam Kashyapi, explains that this unusual weather phenomenon is directly linked to a well-marked low-pressure area that has formed over the Bay of Bengal. This system is expected to develop into a severe cyclonic storm named Senyar within the next couple of days.

"This well-marked low-pressure system features an anti-clockwise movement as it progresses west-northwestwards, pulling all winds toward itself," Kashyapi stated. While Tamil Nadu, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and south Odisha are expected to experience moderate to isolated heavy rainfall, Maharashtra and neighboring Chhattisgarh are experiencing indirect impacts, particularly in the form of rising night temperatures due to partly cloudy conditions expected over the next 48 hours.

The meteorological expert further explained that the cold northerly winds typically responsible for lowering temperatures during Maharashtra's winter have been disrupted due to wind patterns associated with the cyclonic system. Pune and surrounding areas are experiencing warming due to partially cloudy skies influenced by the Bay of Bengal system, which prevents daytime heat from escaping and keeps the earth's surface warm during nighttime hours.

Future Outlook and Weather Predictions

The IMD forecasts that maximum temperatures across Pune will remain around or slightly above 30 degrees Celsius until month's end, with the exception of Pashan where temperatures are expected to hover between 28-29 degrees Celsius. Night temperatures, while remaining warm, are predicted to gradually decrease throughout the week, potentially reaching 14 degrees Celsius by Sunday.

Kashyapi noted that "depleting moisture from the atmosphere due to the system is likely to contribute to rising daytime temperatures in the coming days." He advised residents to "brace for a warm winter until the end of this month, after which the northerly winds are expected to return and restore colder conditions to the city and its surroundings."

The combination of disrupted wind patterns, partially cloudy skies, and atmospheric moisture changes has created perfect conditions for the current temperature increase affecting both daytime and nighttime conditions throughout Pune.
