Rajasthan Grapples with Intensifying Heatwave as Temperatures Soar
JAIPUR: The mercury continued its relentless upward climb across Rajasthan on Tuesday, with most regions experiencing a significant temperature spike of nearly 4°C. According to the latest meteorological reports, Barmer emerged as the hottest location in the state, recording a scorching maximum temperature of 41.6°C.
Met Office Attributes Heat to Active Northerly Winds
The Meteorological Department has attributed these severe climatic conditions to the presence of active northerly winds sweeping across the region. Officials have issued warnings that heatwave conditions are likely to intensify further throughout Rajasthan in the coming days.
Residents of Jaipur awoke to a noticeably warmer morning, with the city recording a minimum temperature of 23°C. The day progressed into a blistering afternoon, with the maximum temperature reaching 38.8°C. The Met office has indicated that Jaipur is expected to touch a maximum temperature of 40°C in the near future.
Temperature Breakdown Across Major Cities
Following Barmer, Kota recorded the second-highest temperature at 41.5°C, with Chittorgarh close behind at 40.8°C. Jaisalmer and Churu both registered temperatures around 40.5°C each. Most other major urban centers reported maximum temperatures ranging between 38°C and 40°C, including:
- Ajmer
- Alwar
- Jodhpur
- Bikaner
The intense heat has significantly impacted daily life, with roads appearing notably empty in cities where temperatures exceeded 40°C, particularly in Barmer, Kota, Chittorgarh, and Jaisalmer.
Nighttime Temperatures and Weather Patterns
Minimum temperatures across Rajasthan ranged between 20°C and 25°C, indicating relatively warm nights throughout the state. Western regions such as Barmer and Jaisalmer experienced particularly warm nighttime conditions, with temperatures hovering around 25°C.
While humidity levels remained moderate, the complete absence of rainfall across all districts underscores the prevailing dry weather system dominating the region. This lack of precipitation contributes to the escalating heat conditions.
Forecast Predicts Further Temperature Escalation
The Meteorological Department has issued a concerning forecast for the period from April 17 to April 18. There is a strong possibility that some areas in western Rajasthan could record maximum temperatures at or above 44°C, indicating a significant intensification of the current heatwave.
As the heatwave continues to grip the state, residents are advised to take necessary precautions against heat-related illnesses, stay hydrated, and limit outdoor activities during peak temperature hours.
