Jaipur: Despite a minor dip in temperatures due to excessive wind, no respite from the scorching heat was witnessed in the state on Wednesday. According to Met reports, Pilani and Chittorgarh remained the hottest in the state, recording a maximum temperature of 46.2 degrees Celsius.
The Met department stated that no relief is likely in the coming days, with only dust storms expected at many places in the state. Attributing the continued rise in mercury to active northerly winds and the absence of western disturbances, the Met office said temperatures are likely to increase further in the coming days.
Following Pilani and Chittorgarh, Sriganganagar recorded a maximum temperature of 46.1 degrees Celsius, Bikaner 46 degrees, Vanasthali 45.6 degrees, Fatehpur 45.5 degrees, and Kota 45.3 degrees. Barmer and Churu reported 45.1 degrees each, Jaisalmer 46.1 degrees, Jodhpur 44.7 degrees, Ajmer 43.1 degrees, Bhilwara 43 degrees, Dausa 43 degrees, and Udaipur 42.4 degrees.
The scorching temperatures have disrupted normal life in many districts. Markets are witnessing reduced daytime footfall, roads remain largely deserted during afternoon hours, and outdoor workers, traffic police personnel, laborers, and street vendors are among the worst affected. Hospitals are also reporting a rise in cases of dehydration, heat exhaustion, and viral illnesses linked to extreme weather conditions. Increased use of air-conditioners and coolers has pushed electricity demand sharply upward in several urban centers.
In Jaipur, residents experienced a mix of extreme heat and sudden weather activity over the past few days. A marginal dip in the minimum and maximum temperatures was recorded. People woke up to a minimum temperature of 30.6 degrees Celsius, followed by a maximum of 42 degrees in the afternoon. At the walled city, a smog gun installed by municipal authorities was seen sprinkling water on passers-by.
In its forecast, the Met office in Jaipur said that not much change in weather conditions is expected in the coming days. It further forecast that heat wave conditions are likely to aggravate further from Saturday.
