Water Conservation Champions Honored at Nagpur Event

Nagpur: Padma awardees and grassroots water conservation champions from across the country were felicitated for their remarkable contributions to water sustainability and rural transformation at Union minister Nitin Gadkari's two-day Jalsamvaad and Jalkranti Parishad held in the city. The event recognized individuals who have dedicated their lives to preserving water resources and fostering sustainable development in rural areas.

Honorees from Maharashtra

Among those felicitated was Subhash Sharma, recognized for promoting chemical-free natural farming practices in drought-affected Yavatmal. His work has helped farmers adopt sustainable agriculture methods that conserve water and improve soil health. Chaitram Pawar was also honored for transforming Dhule's Baripada village into a self-reliant ecosystem through extensive afforestation and water conservation efforts. Social worker Aniket Amte was recognized for advancing the legacy of Baba Amte through Lok Biradari Prakalp in Hemalkasa, a remote village in the Gadchiroli district, and his work in community welfare, including healthcare and education for tribal communities.

National Water Conservationists

The event also celebrated several prominent water conservationists from across the country. Ramveer Tanwar, known as the "Lake Man of India," has led restoration efforts for over 100 lakes nationwide, reviving them to support local ecosystems and communities. Suresh Khanapurkar was recognized for developing the Shirpur Pattern of water harvesting, a model that has been replicated in many regions to enhance groundwater recharge and irrigation efficiency.

Felicitating the awardees, Gadkari said these individuals have worked tirelessly for water conservation and their stories serve as an inspiration to others to join the movement and strengthen efforts towards sustainable water management. He emphasized that their grassroots initiatives are crucial for addressing India's water challenges and achieving long-term sustainability.
