A 15-year-old girl, a Class 9 student, was gangraped by three individuals in the Sidhi district of Madhya Pradesh. The survivor was also assaulted and sustained minor injuries. Police arrested one of the accused, who is also a minor, on Tuesday. The investigation has been assigned to the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) headquarters, who commenced the probe on Wednesday.
Details of the Incident
The incident occurred under the Kotwali police station area on the night of May 2. According to police, the Class 9 student was sleeping in the courtyard with her mother due to the heat when three youths allegedly abducted her. They gagged her and took her to a nearby forest, where she was sexually assaulted. The accused fled after leaving her there, and she later returned home and informed her mother.
Police Statement
DSP headquarters Sidhi, Aman Mishra, told TOI: "One of the accused was known to the survivor. He called her out on the pretext of talking. As she went out, the trio overpowered her. The two others took turns raping her. When she resisted, they thrashed her, causing minor injuries. One accused is arrested; a search for the other two is ongoing."
Authorities are conducting raids to apprehend the remaining suspects. The survivor has been provided medical care, and her statement has been recorded. The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
