18-year-old dies in Dumka road accident, protest staged

Dumka: An 18-year-old boy died in a road accident near Dadi Rani Sati Temple on Jamtara road on Thursday afternoon. Two other individuals sustained injuries in the incident. All three were traveling together on a two-wheeler.

Victim identified

The deceased was identified as Ronit Rai, a resident of Tilabad under Town police station limits in Jamtara district. Following the incident, locals blocked the road and staged a protest, demanding compensation for the victim's family.

Accident details

According to reports, the accident occurred around 12 noon when a speeding dumper truck was turning towards a petrol pump for refueling. At that moment, the two-wheeler passing through the area came under the dumper's wheels, leaving Ronit critically injured. Bystanders rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.

Police response

Soon after receiving information about the incident, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Wasim Raja and local police station in-charge Manoj Kumar Mahto reached the spot along with police personnel to begin an investigation. The road blockade was lifted after about two and a half hours, following assurances of suitable compensation to the victim's family. The driver managed to escape after the accident. We have seized the vehicle and further probe is on, the SDPO said.

Authorities have registered a case and are searching for the absconding driver. The injured individuals are receiving medical treatment, and their condition is reported to be stable.
