Militants Launch Early Morning Assault on Border Outpost
In a brazen security breach, heavily armed miscreants targeted an Assam Rifles outpost located near the sensitive India-Myanmar border in Manipur during the early hours of Friday. The attack resulted in at least four soldiers sustaining injuries during the exchange of fire.
The assault occurred around 4:15 am at the Yangoupokpi post near Saibol in Tengnoupal district, according to official sources. Suspected militants equipped with sophisticated weapons and explosives opened fire on the security forces from multiple directions.
Intense Exchange of Fire and Immediate Response
Personnel on duty at the 3-Assam Rifles outpost immediately retaliated against the attackers, leading to a brief but intense gunfight. The military response was characterized by control and caution, with special attention given to civilian safety in the area.
The four injured soldiers were quickly evacuated from the scene and transported to Leimakhong military hospital for medical treatment. Their current condition remains under assessment by military medical authorities.
Military Reinforcement and Ongoing Operations
In an official statement released on Friday, the Defence Ministry PRO and spokesperson for Manipur, Nagaland, and southern Arunachal Pradesh confirmed that additional troops have been deployed to the region as operations continue.
The spokesperson stated: "A patrolling party of Assam Rifles was fired upon by terrorists in Tengnoupal district of Manipur, along the India-Myanmar Border on Nov 28 in the early morning hours. The fire was immediately retaliated with control and caution, keeping in view the civilian safety. The operations are currently underway, with additional troops being deployed into the area."
As of now, no militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack, leaving authorities to investigate the identity and motives of the perpetrators.
Pattern of Violence in Border Regions
This incident marks another chapter in the ongoing security challenges along the India-Myanmar border. The attack follows a similar ambush that occurred on September 19, when militants targeted a team of 33 Assam Rifles at Nambol Sabal Leikai in Bishnupur district.
That previous attack proved more deadly, resulting in two soldiers killed and five others injured, highlighting the persistent threat faced by security forces operating in Manipur's border regions.
The repeated attacks on military outposts have raised concerns about the security situation in the area, prompting calls for enhanced counter-insurgency measures and improved intelligence gathering along the volatile border region.
