A tragic incident occurred in Bokaro district on Thursday when a 14-year-old boy, Priyanshu Gulati, a resident of Shastri Nagar in Phusro, drowned in the Damodar river under Bermo subdivision. According to police reports, the teenager had gone out with friends to play cricket and later proceeded to the river along with two companions for bathing.
Incident Details
While taking a dip, Priyanshu accidentally moved into a deeper stretch of water and was unable to come out. Despite efforts by those present, he was swept away by the current. Local residents rushed him to the Regional Hospital CCL Dhori, where doctors declared him brought dead.
Official Response
Upon receiving information, Bokaro Deputy Commissioner Ajay Nath Jha and Superintendent of Police Nathu Singh Meena reached the hospital to meet the bereaved family. The DC stated, “Permanent warning boards will be installed at dangerous locations along the Damodar river and other water bodies to prevent such incidents in the future. Parents should also ensure strict supervision of children near rivers and ponds.”
Compensation and Preventive Measures
Authorities have been directed to process compensation under the disaster management scheme for the victim’s family. The incident highlights the need for increased safety measures and awareness about water hazards, especially for young individuals.
