Chennai: A family of four, including an elderly couple, attempted suicide at their residence in Nanmangalam near Pallikaranai on Wednesday morning, leaving them in critical condition.
Incident Details
According to police, Balaji, 35, a vegetable trader, did not open his shop on Wednesday morning. Concerned employees went to his house to check on him. They found Balaji, his wife Priya, 30, his mother Padmavathi, 52, and father Srinivasan, 60, unconscious. The employees, along with neighbors, called an ambulance and rushed the family to Tambaram District Government Hospital.
Financial and Personal Distress
Police sources revealed that the family was under severe financial strain, with debts amounting to approximately ₹1 crore due to significant losses in Balaji's vegetable business. Additionally, Balaji and Priya, married for eight years, were distressed over their inability to have children. The condition of all four family members is reported to be critical.
Investigation Underway
