China on Monday imposed sanctions on 10 American military-related companies, responding to a recent US move that bars certain leading Chinese technology companies from defense contracts.
Sanctions Details
China's Commerce Ministry stated that Chinese companies would be prohibited from exporting "dual-use" items to the 10 firms, which include military drone manufacturers and some involved in rare earth mining. Dual-use goods are those that can have both military and civilian applications.
The ministry explained that the export ban aims to safeguard China's national security and is a response to what it termed the US government's "wrongful expansion of its so-called List of Chinese Military Companies."
Additional Measures
Separately, the Finance Ministry announced that government entities would be barred from purchasing products from 46 American companies, including Lockheed Martin and Raytheon Missiles & Defence, according to the official Xinhua News Agency.
This tit-for-tat action escalates trade tensions between the world's two largest economies, with both sides targeting each other's defense and technology sectors.
