The Delhi Police Special Cell has successfully dismantled an alleged ISI-linked terror module that was planning coordinated attacks in Delhi and Mumbai. The operation, conducted in collaboration with intelligence agencies, led to the seizure of a significant cache of explosives, including grenades and drone-dropped weapons.
Key Details of the Operation
According to officials, the terror module had been under surveillance for several months. The plot involved reconnaissance of potential targets in both cities, with handlers based in Karachi and connections to the underworld network of Dawood Ibrahim and his associates, including Shahzad Bhatti, Munna Jhingada, and Vijay Don.
Arrests and Seizures
Multiple suspects have been arrested, with one key operative detained in Pune. The police recovered a large quantity of explosives, grenades, and sophisticated communication equipment. The module was allegedly planning to use drones to smuggle weapons across the border.
National Security Implications
This crackdown highlights the persistent cross-border terrorism threat from Pakistan-based groups. The Delhi Police, along with other security agencies such as the NIA, BSF, NSG, and CRPF, have heightened security measures in both cities. The case has been registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
Ongoing Investigations
Investigations are ongoing to identify all links and potential sleeper cells. The intelligence agencies are also probing the terror funding network and the involvement of Pakistani intelligence. This operation underscores the commitment of Indian security forces to thwart any attempts to disrupt national security.
