Gumla: Five members of a family, including three children, were killed and four others sustained critical injuries after the SUV they were traveling in collided with a tree near Agharma village in Simdega district on Thursday, police reported.
Victims Identified
The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Mustafa, 58, a resident of Rahat Nagar in Lohardaga district; his wife, Guldam Aara, 48; their relative Anabya Praveen, 3, daughter of Mohsin Hasmi; Ayara Naj, one and a half years old; and Arsh Hasmi, 8.
Injured and Journey Details
The injured include Neha Praveen, 25; Heena Praveen, 28; Umer Nawaz, 5; and Aman Khan, 25, who was driving the vehicle. They were en route to Lasia in Kolebira from Lohardaga.
According to the Officer in Charge of Kolebira police station, Harsh Kumar, the driver may have dozed off as no brake marks were found at the scene. He added that the victims died while being taken to the hospital.
The injured were initially taken to the referral hospital in Basia, Gumla district, and later referred to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims) in Ranchi for advanced treatment, police said.
This tragic incident highlights the dangers of driver fatigue on long journeys. Authorities urge drivers to take adequate rest before traveling.
