Kuwait and Bahrain have once again become flashpoints in the escalating U.S.-Iran confrontation, as Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for a coordinated missile and drone attack on multiple U.S.-linked military facilities across the Middle East. The operation, according to Iranian media, was a direct response to recent American strikes on Iranian targets.
Targets of the Iranian Attack
The IRGC stated that its forces targeted key U.S. military installations, including the Ali Al-Salem and Ahmad Al-Jaber air bases in Kuwait, the Sheikh Isa Air Base in Bahrain, and the Harir Air Base in northern Iraq. Additionally, Tehran claimed to have struck Patriot air defense systems and communications facilities linked to the U.S. Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain.
Details of the Strikes
Iranian state media reported that missiles and drones successfully hit over 20 targets at these bases, causing significant damage to infrastructure and equipment. The Pentagon has yet to release an official damage assessment, but initial reports indicate that some Patriot systems were disabled and communications equipment was destroyed.
The attack marks one of the most significant Iranian offensives against U.S. forces since the 2020 assassination of Qasem Soleimani. The IRGC has warned that this is only the beginning, with a statement saying, "More severe response is coming if the United States continues its aggression."
In response, the U.S. Fifth Fleet has heightened its alert status, and additional defensive measures are being implemented across the region. The Pentagon is expected to brief President Trump on the situation, as tensions between the two nations reach a critical point.
