In a significant escalation of hostilities, at least twelve United States military personnel sustained injuries during an Iranian strike targeting the Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia on Friday. This latest incident brings the total number of American service members wounded since the conflict erupted on February 28 to over 300, with approximately 273 having already returned to active duty. Tragically, thirteen US troops have lost their lives in the ongoing confrontations.
The combined missile and drone offensive is being regarded as one of the most severe breaches of American air defense systems since the war commenced. US officials disclosed to The New York Times that the attack inflicted substantial damage on at least two KC‑135 aerial refueling aircraft stationed at the base.

Iran has systematically targeted US installations across the Middle East throughout the war, leveraging an extensive arsenal of ballistic missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles in a bid to retaliate and disrupt the American bombing campaign. This persistent threat has compelled US Central Command to relocate thousands of personnel to more secure locations, with some deployments extending as far as Europe.
While the majority of Iranian strikes have been successfully intercepted by US and allied air defense networks, cheaper disposable weapons such as Shahed drones have occasionally overwhelmed these protective systems. Previous tragic incidents include the deaths of six US Army reservists in a drone strike at Shuaiba port in Kuwait and another service member killed at Prince Sultan Air Base on March 1.

Medical reports indicate that nearly 225 of the wounded US troops have suffered traumatic brain injuries resulting from missile blast effects, though all but around 35 have recuperated and resumed their duties.
The broader regional conflict has exacted a heavy human cost, with reports documenting more than 1,492 fatalities in Iran, over 1,110 in Lebanon, more than 50 in Gulf countries, and at least 16 casualties from Israeli military actions.
