Iran-backed Hezbollah continued its attacks on Israeli troops, further escalating tensions along the Lebanon border amid a fragile ceasefire. The Israeli military confirmed that three soldiers were injured after a booby-trapped drone exploded in southern Lebanon. This incident follows a previous Hezbollah drone strike near the northern border that killed a 47-year-old reservist soldier.
Details of the Attack
The explosion occurred as Israeli forces were operating in southern Lebanon. The drone, rigged with explosives, detonated near the soldiers, causing injuries. The Israeli military did not immediately disclose the severity of the injuries but stated that all three were evacuated for medical treatment.
Israeli Retaliation
In response to the attack, Israel launched fresh airstrikes across southern Lebanon's Nabatieh region. Lebanese media reported that at least four people were killed and several others wounded. Among the victims were a 78-year-old woman and her 11-year-old grandson in the village of Abba. Another strike in Jarjouaa killed two brothers.
Escalating Tensions
The attacks come amid a fragile ceasefire that has been under strain since the initial outbreak of hostilities. Hezbollah, backed by Iran, has continued to target Israeli positions, while Israel has vowed to respond forcefully to any aggression. The international community has called for restraint, but the situation remains volatile.
Broader Regional Context
The violence along the Lebanon border is part of a wider pattern of instability in the region. Iran's influence and its support for militant groups like Hezbollah have been a point of contention. The United States and other nations have been involved in diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions, but progress has been slow.
