The body of a 35-year-old man, who was kidnapped from Hoshiarpur in Punjab, was found in a canal in Karnal, Haryana, on Monday. The victim, identified as Ravi Kumar, a resident of Mahilpur in Hoshiarpur district, had been missing since last Thursday. His family had filed a kidnapping complaint with the local police.
Discovery of the Body
The body was recovered from the Western Yamuna Canal in Karnal by local police after passersby noticed it floating in the water. The victim's hands and feet were tied, and there were visible injury marks on his body, indicating a violent death. Police have sent the body for post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death.
Investigation and Suspicions
Preliminary investigations suggest that Ravi Kumar was abducted by a group of men who were allegedly known to him. Police suspect a business rivalry could be the motive behind the kidnapping and murder. Ravi ran a small transport business and had recently been involved in a dispute with a competitor. A case of kidnapping and murder has been registered, and a manhunt is underway to nab the accused.
Senior police officials from both Punjab and Haryana are coordinating the investigation. The Hoshiarpur police have formed a special team to probe the case. They are examining call detail records and CCTV footage from areas where the victim was last seen. The family has demanded swift justice and strict action against the culprits.
Previous Incidents
This incident has raised concerns about the safety of small business owners in the region. In the past year, there have been a few cases of abduction and murder linked to business rivalries in Punjab and Haryana. Police have urged citizens to report any suspicious activities and to resolve disputes through legal channels.
The body was handed over to the family after the post-mortem. The last rites were performed in his native village on Tuesday. The family members are in a state of shock and have appealed to the police to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book at the earliest.
