Amid escalating tensions in West Asia, the Kuwaiti Army on Wednesday accused Iran of launching hostile drone attacks that left several people injured and targeted the passenger building at Kuwait International Airport. The attack caused significant material damage to Terminal 1 and resulted in injuries, according to a statement by the Official Spokesman for the Ministry of Defence, Brigadier General Saud Abdulaziz Al-Otaibi.
Official Statement and Response
In a post on X, Al-Otaibi stated that a number of hostile drones struck the passenger building (T1) at Kuwait International Airport as a result of what he termed 'criminal Iranian aggression.' The injured individuals received necessary medical care. The Kuwaiti Army affirmed that it is monitoring the situation in coordination with relevant authorities and remains in a state of complete readiness to deal with any developments, taking all necessary measures to preserve national security and stability.
Air Traffic Suspended
According to Kuwait's News Agency (KUNA), the country's Civil Aviation authority suspended air traffic and flights, diverting flights to alternative airports after Terminal 1 came under attack, causing casualties and damage.
Iran's Retaliatory Claims
In parallel developments, Iranian state broadcaster Press TV reported that the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) announced retaliatory strikes against an 'enemy vessel,' the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain, and a regional American airbase. The IRGC claimed these actions were in response to two acts of US aggression targeting Iranian assets.
Citing a statement from its Public Relations Office, the IRGC said the situation began late at night when an Iranian oil tanker was struck near the Strait of Hormuz and an IRGC communications tower in southern Qeshm Island was targeted with aerial projectiles. 'In response to this aggression, their air and helicopter base stationed in one of the countries of the region, as well as the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet, were subjected to missile and drone attacks by the IRGC Aerospace Force,' the IRGC said as quoted by Press TV.
