Man dies after surgery in Meerut, kin allege negligence

A 22-year-old man died at a private hospital in Meerut on Saturday night, seven days after he was admitted. Mohammed Faraz of Bani Sarai in Kotwali underwent surgery that evening. Family members allege that doctors prevented them from meeting Faraz after the operation and only declared him dead when they insisted on seeing him.

Allegations of negligence

Vineet Chaprana, a social activist, told TOI, "Faraz died due to negligence observed by a doctor during a chest operation. We seek to verify the doctor's degree and hospital documents, and if any faults are found, the hospital should be sealed."

Family protest and police action

Angry relatives created a disturbance at the hospital. Hospital staff fled the scene as the situation escalated. Police from Lohiyanagar station arrived and detained hospital owner Abdul Jabbar. The hospital staff maintained that the surgery was successful, but the patient died suddenly. Police confirmed that the owner has been detained.
