Modi, Nordic leaders condemn Ukraine war, Pahalgam attack

In a joint statement issued on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and leaders of Nordic countries voiced deep concern over the ongoing war in Ukraine, stating that it continues to cause immense human suffering and has far-reaching global consequences. The statement affirmed their continued support for efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace through dialogue and diplomacy, grounded in the principles of the United Nations Charter and international law.

Concerns over West Asia and Strait of Hormuz

The leaders also expressed profound concern regarding the situation in West Asia and its global repercussions. They welcomed the ceasefire announced on April 8 and called for freedom of navigation and the uninterrupted global flow of commerce through the Strait of Hormuz, in line with the provisions of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Call for humanitarian aid in Gaza

On the issue of Palestine, the leaders urged all parties to respect the ceasefire and uphold their obligations under international law. They emphasized the critical need for safe, sustained, and unhindered humanitarian assistance throughout Gaza to alleviate the suffering of civilians.

Condemnation of terrorism

The joint statement strongly condemned terrorism and extremism in all their forms. Specifically, the leaders condemned in the strongest terms the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, 2025, as well as the terror incident near the Red Fort in New Delhi on November 10, 2025. The statement reiterated the commitment to combating terrorism globally.
