A tragic road accident on National Highway 26 near Jhitikiguda in Nabarangpur district claimed the lives of a 56-year-old woman and her 30-year-old daughter, while leaving three others injured. The incident occurred early Sunday when the car they were traveling in collided head-on with a trailer truck.
Victims Identified
The deceased were identified as Usha Rani and her daughter Soumya. Soumya's husband, their six-year-old daughter, and the car's driver were rushed to the district headquarters hospital for treatment, according to police sources.
Details of the Accident
The family was returning to Nabarangpur from Puri when the accident took place. The trailer truck was traveling from Nabarangpur towards Kalahandi. The impact of the crash was so severe that the car was reduced to a mangled heap, trapping all occupants inside. Upon receiving information, police and fire services personnel reached the spot and rescued the victims from the wreckage.
The truck driver is currently absconding, and efforts are underway to apprehend him. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the matter.
