The Ranchi Meteorological Office has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds reaching 50-60 kmph at isolated places across Jharkhand, with similar conditions expected to persist over the next few days.
Orange Alert for Monday
For Monday, the Met office has upgraded the warning to an orange alert, forecasting thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds (50-60 kmph) accompanied by hailstorms at isolated places in the northeastern and adjoining central parts of the state. On Tuesday and Wednesday, thunderstorm, lightning, and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) are likely at isolated places.
No Immediate Heatwave
Weather officials have indicated that there are no immediate chances of a significant rise in temperatures or heatwave-like conditions.
Weather Systems Behind the Activity
According to Abhishek Anand, scientist and deputy director of the Ranchi Met office, an east-west trough extending from northeast Madhya Pradesh to Manipur across Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Bangladesh, and south Assam at 0.9 km above mean sea level is influencing the weather. Additionally, an upper air cyclonic circulation over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Bangladesh has shifted to north Bangladesh and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal, lying between 1.5 and 3.1 km above mean sea level. A trough extending from 4.5 to 9.4 km above mean sea level is also contributing. These systems are triggering thunderstorm, lightning, and occasional hailstorms in isolated parts of the state.
Recent Rainfall and Temperatures
In the 24 hours ending at 8:30 am on Saturday, the state experienced light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms at isolated places. The highest rainfall of 41.2 mm was recorded at Manjhari in West Singhbhum. The highest maximum temperature of 35 degrees Celsius was recorded at Daltonganj, while the lowest minimum temperature of 16.3 degrees Celsius was reported at Namkum in Ranchi district. In Ranchi city, the maximum temperature was 33.6 degrees Celsius, and the minimum was 19 degrees Celsius.
