According to Saudi officials, three drones entering from Iraqi airspace were intercepted by Saudi air defenses. However, one drone managed to strike a generator outside the United Arab Emirates' Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in Al Dhafra. The UAE confirmed that two unmanned aerial vehicles were intercepted, and one impacted outside the plant's inner perimeter. Authorities stated there was no radiation risk reported.
Riyadh's Warning
Riyadh warned that it reserves the right to respond to threats against its sovereignty. The Saudi government emphasized that such violations will not be tolerated and that it will take all necessary measures to protect its territory and citizens.
Iraq's Response
Iraq rejected being used as a launchpad for attacks and stressed state control over weapons. Iraqi officials stated that they are committed to preventing any hostile actions from their territory and are cooperating with investigations.
Investigations Underway
Investigations are currently underway to determine the origin and perpetrators of the drone attacks. The International Atomic Energy Agency has issued an update regarding the incident at the Barakah nuclear plant, confirming no radiation leak. Gulf security fears continue to intensify as regional tensions escalate.
This incident follows a series of escalations in the Middle East, including recent exchanges between Iran and Israel, and ongoing diplomatic efforts by the United States to manage tensions with Iran. The UAE has also sought assistance from Russia amid threats from Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
