A tragic plane crash in Texas has claimed the lives of five members of the Amarillo Pickleball Club, turning what was meant to be a joyful trip to a tournament into a devastating loss. The small aircraft went down late Thursday night near Wimberley, southwest of Austin, killing all five people on board.
Crash Details
According to officials, the plane crashed around 11 p.m. while en route to New Braunfels for a scheduled pickleball event. The aircraft hit the ground at high speed and caught fire, leaving no survivors. Sergeant Billy Ray of the Texas Department of Public Safety stated that there was no evidence of a mid-air collision, suggesting the crash occurred suddenly during the flight.
Nearby residents reported hearing a loud noise and feeling the ground shake. One resident, Stacey Rohr, described the terrifying moment: "It was so close I felt like it was the back of my place up in flames."
Victims Identified
The Amarillo Pickleball Club confirmed the identities of the five victims: Seren Wilson, Brooke Skypala, Stacy Hedrick, Glen Appling, and Hayden Dillard. In a heartfelt statement, the club expressed its grief and asked for prayers for the families.
"Today, the Club has received terrible news that we all must mourn in the loss of five members of our Amarillo pickleball family," the club said. "Please keep their precious families in your thoughts and prayers."
Community in Shock
The crash has deeply shaken the local sports community. The group was traveling together to participate in a tournament, an event they had likely been looking forward to. Instead, their journey ended in a devastating accident. Authorities quickly reached the site, but there was nothing that could be done.
The tragedy also affected the wider pickleball community. The tournament at the Cranky Pickle in New Braunfels was canceled after the news. Martin Robertson, head pro at the venue, said, "We're very heavy hearted, heartbroken from this. The pickleball community is very tight knit. Everybody knows everybody."

Flight tracking data showed the aircraft was heading to New Braunfels National Airport. Another plane bound for the same location landed safely, highlighting the unexpected nature of the crash. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are now investigating the incident to determine the cause.
