Bareilly: A tragic accident in Lakhimpur Kheri's Padhwa area on Thursday afternoon claimed the lives of five people and left over 20 injured, nine of them critically. The incident occurred when a tractor-trolley carrying approximately 50 villagers to a religious ceremony overturned.
Details of the Accident
The tractor, which had two trolleys attached, was en route from Sohariya village to Karikot temple in Bahraich's Sujauli area for a 'mundan' (head shaving) ritual. The driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn and trap several individuals underneath the trolleys.
Casualties and Injuries
Among the deceased were three girls: Aarushi (12), Nancy (15), and Panchhi (16), along with two women, Raj Kumari (40) and Makhana (45). Over 20 people sustained injuries, with nine in critical condition. The injured were rushed to the nearest community health centre, while one patient was transferred to Lucknow for advanced medical care.
Official Response
District Magistrate Anjani Kumar stated, "It seemed the incident happened after two trolleys were added to the tractor." Police have initiated an investigation into the cause of the accident.
The tragedy has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting concerns over road safety and the use of overloaded vehicles for transportation.
