Trump Calls Off Iran Strike After Gulf Allies Request

US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he has called off a planned military strike on Iran that was scheduled for Tuesday, following requests from Gulf allies including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. Trump stated that serious negotiations are underway and expressed optimism about reaching a deal without military action.

Trump's Announcement

In a post on Truth Social, Trump revealed that the US had been preparing "a very major attack" on Iran but decided to delay it after Gulf leaders urged Washington to allow more time for diplomacy. "There seems to be a very good chance that they can work something out. If we can do that without bombing the hell out of them, I'd be very happy," Trump said at the White House.

Gulf Allies' Role

Trump specifically mentioned the Emir of Qatar, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, and the President of the UAE as key figures who requested the postponement. He noted that they believe a deal is close, which would include a prohibition on Iran developing nuclear weapons.

Hezbollah Attacks in Lebanon

Meanwhile, Hezbollah claimed responsibility for 14 separate attacks on Israeli forces in southern Lebanon on Monday. The group said it used explosive drones, rockets, and artillery to target Israeli soldiers and military vehicles near the border. These operations come amid ongoing cross-border tensions despite ceasefire efforts.

Israeli Raids in West Bank

Israeli forces also stormed several areas in the Ramallah and el-Bireh governorate in the occupied West Bank, including the villages of al-Mughayyir and Abu Falah. Confrontations broke out, with Israeli forces firing tear gas canisters.

Trump's Hard Line on Iran

Trump reiterated his stance that the US will not allow Iran to possess a nuclear weapon. He also mentioned that Chinese President Xi Jinping praised the US military, emphasizing American military superiority. Trump warned that if no deal is reached, the US is prepared for "a full, large scale assault."

Market Reaction

Oil prices briefly fell after Trump's remarks before recovering later in the day. The Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil route, remains a point of concern amid heightened tensions in West Asia.

Iran dismissed Trump's move as a "retreat" driven by fear, while negotiations over Tehran's nuclear programme and regional security remain stalled.
