US President Donald Trump on Thursday made a series of strong remarks about Iran, claiming that the country's military capabilities had been severely degraded. Speaking to reporters, Trump said Iran no longer had an effective navy or air force and asserted that its leadership structure had been 'wiped out.'
Trump's Remarks on Iran's Military
He also criticised media coverage of the conflict, accusing what he called the 'fake news' of portraying Iran as performing well despite the damage it had suffered. 'They have 159 ships and all of them lie at the bottom of the ocean. We have taken pictures of them down there,' Trump stated.
Potential for Renewed Military Action
Addressing the possibility of renewed military action, Trump indicated that any future conflict would depend on Iran's actions. He said, 'If they killed US troops, it would be a good reason to do so,' suggesting that an attack on American personnel could trigger a military response from Washington.
US House Votes to Curb Trump's Iran War Powers
On Wednesday, the US House of Representatives voted 215-208 in favour of a resolution aimed at preventing Trump from launching further military operations against Iran without congressional approval. Four Republicans joined Democrats in backing the measure, which now moves to the Senate.
Trump's Reaction to House Vote
Trump criticised the House of Representatives after lawmakers approved the resolution. Posting on his Truth Social platform, the US President described the vote as 'meaningless.' 'Yesterday, in a meaningless vote, the House voted, 4 bad Republicans and all of the Dumocrats, to limit my War Powers, right in the middle of my final negotiations to end the War with the Islamic Republic of Iran,' he wrote.
The comments come amid continued tensions between the United States and Iran following recent confrontations in the region. For more updates on the US-Iran conflict, stay tuned.
