Boat Capsize Claims 12 Indian Lives Near Phu Quoc Island

A tourist speedboat carrying 32 Indian tourists and four crew members capsized near Phu Quoc Island on Saturday while returning to An Thoi Port, according to Andhra Pradesh Government sources. The accident killed 10 tourists from Tamil Nadu and two from Andhra Pradesh, with 21 others rescued.

Of the 36 persons on board, 17 passengers and four crew members survived. Two survivors remain in critical condition. All individuals have been accounted for.

Andhra Pradesh Victims Identified

Preliminary information indicates that two persons from Machilipatnam are among the deceased. Andhra Pradesh sources stated, "We are coordinating with the Indian Embassy and the Vietnamese authorities, and further details will be shared after official confirmation." Three other people from Andhra Pradesh were hospitalised following the incident.

The tour was organised by Vietnam-based Threeland Travel through local coordinating vendor Sai Vietnam, while the Indian tourist group was reportedly associated with Lava Mobile.

Rescue Operation and Investigation

The An Thoi Border Guard Station, the Navy, Coast Guard Region 4, and local boats launched a large-scale rescue operation, deploying life rafts and jet skis. The cause of the accident is under investigation, with rough sea conditions and possible mechanical failure suspected.

All efforts are being taken in coordination with Union Government authorities to bring the bodies of the deceased tourists back to India, an official added.
