Global Conflicts Create Uncertainty for Economies and Energy Security, Says Minister Pralhad Joshi

Union Minister Pralhad Joshi has highlighted that the ongoing conflicts around the world are generating significant uncertainty for global economies and energy security, emphasizing the urgent need for dialogue to build a sustainable future. Speaking at the Bharat Electricity Summit 2026 in New Delhi on Thursday, Joshi pointed out that the current geopolitical turmoil is affecting both economic stability and public sentiment.

Impact of Geopolitical Tensions on Global Dynamics

In his address, Joshi stated, "In the entire world, there is a kind of turmoil... there is so much war going on, and it is affecting economies and energy security." He elaborated that people worldwide are increasingly concerned about the future, with many feeling tense and bothered by the instability. The minister cited specific regions and countries, such as Iran, Russia, China, and Taiwan, where geopolitical tensions are contributing to global instability and impacting energy markets.

Challenges in Energy Distribution and Infrastructure

Joshi also drew attention to structural imbalances in global energy resources, noting, "Where there is oil, there itself there is no gas... where there is ample gas, there are problems." This underscores the challenges in energy distribution and infrastructure, which exacerbate security concerns. He stressed that beyond immediate worries, countries must focus on protecting long-term interests through resilient policies and planning.

Transition to Renewable Energy and Sustainable Development

Emphasizing the importance of renewable energy, Joshi said, "The moment you decide renewable, it will take some time," highlighting that conventional and renewable sources must coexist during the transition period. He acknowledged progress in renewable capacity additions but cautioned against abruptly discontinuing conventional energy systems. Linking this to cultural context, he extended greetings on Gudi Padwa, describing it as a symbol of renewal that aligns with the shift towards sustainable energy.

India's Growth and Leadership in a Sustainable Future

Joshi expressed confidence in India's long-term growth, stating that the 21st century is expected to belong to the country if it follows a sustainable development pathway guided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision. He underlined the importance of coordination among ministries, experts, and stakeholders to navigate global uncertainties and ensure a smooth energy transition. The minister also acknowledged the role of leadership, including Power Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, in advancing power sector discussions.

Call for Dialogue and Collective Action

In conclusion, Joshi emphasized that dialogue is key to addressing global challenges, saying, "When tensions arise in the world, we should sit together and talk about a sustainable future." He urged countries to work collectively to ensure stability, strengthen energy security, and build a resilient and sustainable future amidst ongoing conflicts shaping global markets and energy systems.
