Suspected Drone Strike Targets LNG Carrier En Route to India
An India-bound liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier, the AL REKAYYAT, was hit by a suspected drone attack in the Gulf of Oman near the strategic Strait of Hormuz on July 7, 2026, according to sources. The vessel was traveling from Ras Laffan, Qatar, to Dahej, India, when the incident occurred.
Sources confirmed that all 29 seafarers on board are safe, including four Indian nationals. No casualties or environmental damage have been reported. The vessel's engine room caught fire following the strike, resulting in heavy smoke, but the ship is continuing its voyage to Dahej.

The incident was reported to the Directorate General of Commercial Shipping (DGCOMM) by the Ras Laffan Port Services (RPSL). Initial information indicates that the vessel sustained damage from the suspected drone strike. The location of the attack is the Gulf of Oman, near the Strait of Hormuz, a critical chokepoint for global oil and gas shipments.

India's Stance on Maritime Security
India has repeatedly emphasized the importance of safety and security of shipping lines in the region. The country has consistently advocated for free and unimpeded navigation and commerce through international waterways, in accordance with international law. This incident underscores the ongoing threats to maritime traffic in the region, particularly near the Strait of Hormuz, which has seen heightened tensions and attacks in recent years.
