UAE Braces for Winter Chill & Rain: Coldest Week Ahead with 3.5°C in Jebel Jais
UAE Winter Alert: Rain, Fog, and Chilly Temperatures Forecast

The United Arab Emirates is set for a significant seasonal shift this week, swapping its characteristic sunny skies for cooler, rain-prone winter conditions. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) has announced that a weak extension of a low-pressure system will influence the country's weather from Thursday, December 25, through Monday, December 29.

Weekend Weather: Pleasant Days and Cooler Nights

Residents can anticipate generally fair to partly cloudy skies during the daytime with moderate and pleasant temperatures. However, the nights will turn noticeably crisper and cooler, marking a true onset of winter. The NCM forecasts that overall winds will be light to moderate but may become fresher at times.

The period from December 25 to 29 will see the lowest temperatures of the season so far, particularly in internal and mountainous regions. A striking example is the 3.5°C recorded at Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah at midnight recently, which stands as the lowest temperature of the year.

Rain and Fog Advisory in Effect

Scattered rainfall is predicted across the Emirates over the weekend. The precipitation will be intermittent, varying in intensity from light drizzles to potentially heavy downpours.

The islands and Northern Emirates are at the highest risk for receiving rainfall. The cloud cover is expected to persist until Sunday, December 29, prompting advice for residents to have indoor backup plans for outdoor activities.

Furthermore, high humidity levels during late night and early morning hours will lead to the formation of thick mist and fog, especially over inland and western areas. Authorities have urged drivers to exercise caution, reduce speeds, and adhere to police instructions on highways.

Safety Warnings for Commuters and Mariners

The NCM has issued specific safety warnings due to the changing conditions. For those on the roads, reduced visibility from fog is the primary concern. At sea, conditions in the Arabian Gulf and the Sea of Oman will be moderate until Saturday.

However, by Sunday, fresh northwesterly winds are forecast to make the seas rough. Mariners and beachgoers are advised to avoid deep-sea activities as wind speeds increase.

For residents planning desert camping trips during the Christmas weekend, the advice is to pack heavy winter gear. The combination of low temperatures, humidity, and wind will create a feeling of intense cold, much sharper than what the thermometer might indicate.
