Barnala Man Missing in Dubai for Over a Month, Mother Appeals for Government Help
A 39-year-old construction worker from Kaire village in Barnala district, Punjab, has been reported missing in Dubai for more than a month, leaving his family in deep distress. Birbal Singh, who traveled to Dubai approximately a year ago in search of employment, last contacted his mother on February 18, and there has been no communication from him since.
Details of the Disappearance
According to villagers, Birbal Singh informed his mother, Nasib Kaur, that he would board a flight on March 23 and return to India the following day. However, he failed to make contact, and his phone has remained unreachable. Sukhwinder Singh, whose wife Gurmel Kaur serves as the village sarpanch, provided further insights. He stated that Birbal regularly communicated with his mother via a local WhatsApp number. "After February 18, his phone has been unreachable. We attempted to contact him multiple times without success. Even officials from the private company where he was employed confirmed that he had left their premises," Sukhwinder Singh explained.
Family Situation and Appeals for Assistance
Nasib Kaur, a widow who lives alone, is now being cared for by her elder son, who resides separately in the same village. The family faces additional hardship as Birbal's wife has left the household along with their 11-year-old daughter. In her anguish, Kaur has made a heartfelt appeal to both the central and state governments through the Deputy Commissioner, seeking urgent help to trace her son and ensure his safe return. "My son was working at a school in Dubai. I appeal to the Centre and state governments to assist us. I fear for my son's well-being," she expressed.
Broader Implications and Community Concern
This incident highlights the challenges faced by overseas workers and their families, particularly in cases of sudden disappearance. The local community in Kaire village has rallied around Nasib Kaur, emphasizing the need for swift governmental intervention. The case underscores the importance of robust support systems for non-resident Indians (NRIs) and the critical role of diplomatic channels in resolving such distressing situations.
As the search for Birbal Singh continues, authorities are urged to expedite efforts to locate him and provide clarity on his whereabouts, bringing relief to his worried mother and the concerned villagers.
