The festive spirit has officially arrived at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. First Lady Melania Trump unveiled the spectacular 2025 holiday decorations at the White House on 1 December 2025, setting a tone of generosity, patriotism, and gratitude. This year's theme, 'Home Is Where the Heart Is,' aims to celebrate the essence of home and shared national pride, coinciding with the upcoming 250th anniversary of America's founding in 2026.
A Dazzling Display of Trees and Tradition
The 2025 White House Christmas showcase is a grand affair, featuring an impressive 51 Christmas trees throughout the mansion. The centrepiece is the official Blue Room tree, an 18½-foot concolor fir sourced from Korson's Tree Farms in Michigan. In a charming nod to tradition, the majestic tree was delivered in a horse-drawn carriage pulled by a pair of Clydesdale horses.
This year, the Blue Room tree holds profound significance as a tribute to 'Gold Star' families—those who have lost a loved one in active military service. It is adorned with more than 2,800 gold stars and ornaments representing the official bird and flower of each U.S. state, symbolising hope, unity, and remembrance.
Playful Rooms and Edible Architecture
Moving to the Green Room, the decor takes a playful turn, transforming the space into a family-friendly 'game room.' The highlights here are unique LEGO portraits of two U.S. Presidents—George Washington and the incumbent, Donald Trump. Each portrait is a meticulous creation, crafted from over 6,000 LEGO pieces, and is displayed alongside classic games like playing cards and dominoes.
The State Dining Room presents a culinary marvel: a detailed gingerbread model of the White House. Constructed from 120 pounds of gingerbread dough, this edible masterpiece recreates the mansion's South Portico and offers a glimpse into the private Yellow Oval Room, though it is strictly for display and not for consumption.
Symbolism and Public Access
Beyond the visual splendour, the 2025 White House Christmas decor is deeply symbolic. First Lady Melania Trump stated that the theme celebrates the home as a sanctuary of love and warmth, a sentiment felt strongly in times of change. The decorations also weave in patriotic motifs honouring America's 250-year journey.
Public tours to witness this festive transformation will follow a modified route this year due to ongoing structural changes. The East Wing is being demolished to make way for a new ballroom under President Trump's direction. Public tours, arranged through congressional offices, are scheduled to resume from 2 December 2025, allowing visitors a new path through the State Floor to experience the holiday magic.
