A young Indian worker from Punjab has died unexpectedly in Armenia, leaving his impoverished family in shock and seeking urgent government assistance to bring his body home.
Tragic Death of a Young Breadwinner
Kamal Kumar, a 21-year-old from Sultanpur Lodhi in Punjab's Kapurthala district, passed away on Monday, December 30, 2025, after suffering a sudden heart attack. The son of the late Balwinder Singh and Karamjit Kaur, Kamal had moved abroad nearly two years ago in pursuit of better employment opportunities and was working at a hotel in the Eurasian nation at the time of his death.
According to information received by his grieving family from his acquaintances in Armenia, the young man suffered the fatal cardiac arrest late at night. His untimely demise has shattered his family's hopes and plunged them into deeper financial despair.
A Mother's Heartbreaking Plea
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, his mother, Karamjit Kaur, painted a picture of profound loss and destitution. "I am a poor woman and work as a daily-wage labourer," she said, breaking down. "Whatever little I earned, I spent to raise him and send my son abroad so that our condition could improve. Now he is no more. My life has ended."
Karamjit Kaur, who lost her husband long ago, revealed that Kamal had been the family's primary financial support since he went overseas. His death has left her completely helpless, exacerbating the severe financial hardship they were already facing.
Appeal for Government Intervention
The family has now made a desperate appeal to Rajya Sabha member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal and other government authorities for immediate help. Their primary request is to facilitate the repatriation of Kamal Kumar's body to India so his last rites can be performed according to family traditions in Sultanpur Lodhi.
In response, MP Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal has assured the family of all possible assistance. He stated that efforts would be made to complete the necessary formalities at the earliest to ensure the body is brought back from Armenia.
The tragedy has cast a pall of gloom over Sultanpur Lodhi. Relatives and villagers expressed that the family is in deep shock, unable to come to terms with the sudden loss. The community has gathered to offer condolences to the bereaved mother and family, highlighting the precarious realities faced by many Indian families dependent on remittances from loved ones working in distant lands.
