Trump Releases Footage of US Airstrikes on Iran's Key Oil Hub
In a dramatic escalation of tensions, former US President Donald Trump has shared aerial video footage showing US military strikes on Iran's critical Kharg Island oil export facility. The black-and-white clip, posted on his Truth Social platform, carries an "unclassified" watermark and depicts multiple explosions with thick smoke billowing from ground targets.
'Total Obliteration' Claimed in Major Military Operation
Trump announced the attack earlier, declaring that US forces had executed "one of the most powerful bombing raids in the History of the Middle East" against Iranian targets. "Moments ago, at my direction, the United States Central Command executed one of the most powerful bombing raids in the History of the Middle East, and totally obliterated every MILITARY target in Iran's crown jewel, Kharg Island," he wrote in his social media post.
However, the former president emphasized that the United States had deliberately avoided striking the island's vital oil infrastructure. "Our Weapons are the most powerful and sophisticated that the World has ever known but, for reasons of decency, I have chosen NOT to wipe out the Oil Infrastructure on the Island," Trump stated.
Strategic Warning About Strait of Hormuz Shipping
The former president issued a stern warning about potential disruptions to global shipping routes. "However, should Iran, or anyone else, do anything to interfere with the Free and Safe Passage of Ships through the Strait of Hormuz, I will immediately reconsider this decision," he declared.
Trump had previously threatened to target Kharg Island's oil infrastructure if Iran blocked shipping through the strategic Strait of Hormuz, which serves as a crucial global energy route. Approximately one-fifth of the world's crude oil and liquefied natural gas normally passes through this narrow waterway.
Iran Confirms Strikes But Denies Oil Damage
Iranian media confirmed that Kharg Island had been targeted in airstrikes, with local sources reporting more than 15 explosions heard across the island and thick smoke rising from multiple areas. However, Iranian reports maintained that "despite the intensity of the blasts, none of the island's oil infrastructure was damaged."
No further details about casualties or additional structural damage were released by Iranian authorities following the strikes.
Geopolitical Significance of Kharg Island
Kharg Island represents Iran's primary oil export hub, located approximately 30 kilometers off the mainland. According to recent analysis by JPMorgan, the island handles nearly 90% of Iran's crude exports, making it economically vital to Tehran's energy sector and national revenue streams.
The video shared by Trump reportedly included footage of the strike on this strategically important facility, though the former president did not provide a specific caption confirming the location shown in the footage.
Escalating Rhetoric and Military Assessments
Trump escalated his rhetoric against Iran in his social media posts, stating: "Iran has NO ability to defend anything that we want to attack. There is nothing they can do about it! Iran will NEVER have a nuclear weapon, nor will it have the ability to threaten the United States of America, the Middle East or, for that matter, the World!"
He further advised: "Iran's Military, and all others involved with this Terrorist Regime, would be wise to lay down their arms, and save what's left of their country, which isn't much!"
Meanwhile, US defense officials provided context about the scale of military operations. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth noted that more than 15,000 enemy targets had been hit since the conflict began, averaging over 1,000 strikes per day. Hegseth downplayed concerns about potential disruptions to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, asserting that "We have been dealing with it and don't need to worry about it."
The release of the strike footage and accompanying statements marks a significant development in the ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran, with potential implications for global energy markets and regional stability in the Middle East.
