Ujjain Student's Body Returns Home from Canada After Tragic Murder
The body of Gurkeerat Manocha, a young student from Ujjain who was tragically murdered in Canada on March 14, was finally brought back to his hometown on Friday morning. This emotional homecoming marked the end of a long and painful journey for his grieving family, who had been waiting for his remains to be repatriated.
Journey from Canada to Ujjain
Gurkeerat's body was first flown to Ahmedabad on Thursday night, where it underwent necessary customs clearance and documentation formalities before being officially handed over to his family. An ambulance, arranged by an Ahmedabad-based organisation, then transported the body to the family's rented home in Parshvanath Colony on Dewas Road in Ujjain.
As the ambulance arrived, an intensely emotional scene unfolded. Gurkeerat's mother, Reetu Kaur Manocha, rushed down from the first floor of the building and approached the driver with folded hands, her voice choked with emotion as she thanked him for bringing her son home for a final farewell. The Gujarat-based driver was visibly moved, unable to hold back his tears, a sentiment shared by the men and women gathered at the scene.
Background of the Tragedy
Gurkeerat had moved to Fort St. John in British Columbia, Canada, approximately a year and a quarter ago to pursue a post-degree diploma in business management at Northern Lights College. His promising academic journey was cut short when he was attacked by a group of 10 to 12 youths about three weeks prior, an incident that ultimately led to his untimely death.
Official Condolences and Funeral Procession
Before the funeral procession began, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav visited the family home. He paid floral tributes to the deceased and offered his heartfelt condolences to Gurkeerat's parents, acknowledging their profound loss. The funeral procession then departed from the family's home on Dewas Road and made its way to Shri Sukhsagar Sahab Gurudwara in Freeganj, where prayers were held in Gurkeerat's memory.
From the Gurudwara, the procession passed through Ghantaghar before reaching Chakrateerth crematorium, where the last rites were performed with dignity and reverence. The community came together to support the family during this difficult time.
