BIS Raids Ranchi Jewellery Shop for Gold Hallmarking Violation

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) Jamshedpur branch office conducted a raid at a jewellery shop in Ranchi on Thursday, finding it allegedly in violation of the quality control order on mandatory hallmarking of gold jewellery.

Violation Details

According to Kunal Kumar, director and head of the Jamshedpur office of BIS, the firm was engaged in selling gold jewellery without hallmark and had not obtained registration from BIS. The enforcement team seized 208.88 grams of gold jewellery that lacked the hallmark. All seized jewellery found to be in violation of the rules was taken into custody by the BIS enforcement team.

Enforcement Action

The raid was part of BIS's ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with hallmarking standards, which are mandatory for gold jewellery sold in India. The seized items will be subject to further investigation, and legal action may follow against the shop owner.
