Eastern Railway Sealdah Division to Impose Weekend Traffic Blocks for Upgrades
Eastern Railway Sealdah Weekend Blocks for Upgrades

Kolkata: Eastern Railway's Sealdah division will impose two major traffic and power blocks over this weekend for infrastructure upgrades and safety maintenance. Suburban services in Sealdah North and South sections will be regulated because of this.

First Block: Bridge Re-girdering

The first is a 15-hour traffic and power block on both Up and Down lines between Sealdah and Kankurgachi Road Junction, including a 60-minute block on the UP Main line, for re-girdering of Bridge No. 3. “The block will run from 10.15pm on Saturday to 1.15pm on Sunday,” ER's CPRO Shibram Majhi said. Movements to and from Narkeldanga (NKG) carshed will remain suspended from 7pm on Saturday to 4pm on Sunday. “The existing girders have outlived their service and need to be replaced with modern ones to strengthen the bridge and enable improved speeds and smoother operations,” Majhi added.

Second Block: Point Conversion at Ballygunge

The second is a six-hour traffic block at Ballygunge station limits on the Down passenger line from 11.10pm on Saturday to 5.10am on Sunday for complete point conversion of point no. 120B/121A from 52 kg to 60 kg.

Authorities said the blocks have been planned for Saturday night and Sunday, a public holiday, to reduce impact on commuters. Several EMU locals will be cancelled across Sealdah North, Main and South sections on both days, with additional short-termination and short-origination of select services, including diversions linked to Ballygunge and Sonarpur operations.

Commuters are advised to check updated schedules and plan their journeys accordingly. The upgrades aim to enhance safety and efficiency on the busy suburban network.
