The Haryana government has officially dismissed Amit Dewan, who previously served as the director (finance) of the Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited, following his indictment in connection with a massive Rs 593 crore bank fraud involving state funds. The dismissal order, issued on Friday by the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam, cited grave misconduct and a severe abuse of official authority as the primary reasons for his termination.
Dewan, who was an employee of UHBVN and had been on deputation to the power corporation, stands accused of bypassing standard financial procedures to orchestrate the unauthorized transfer of approximately Rs 100 crore into illicit accounts. Furthermore, he is alleged to have accepted bribes from Rishav Rishi, identified as the main accused in the case. Dewan was arrested on March 18 and remains in judicial custody as investigations continue.
This dismissal marks the fourth such action taken against officials implicated in the scam. Earlier, in the last week of April, Naresh Bhuwani, a former superintendent from the development and panchayats department, and Randhir Singh, the chief accounts officer of the Haryana School Shiksha Pariyojna Parishad, were removed from their positions. Additionally, the Haryana State Agriculture and Marketing Board terminated the services of Rajesh Sangwan, a controller of finance and accounts who was already under suspension, just last week.
The case came to light in February when the Haryana State Vigilance Bureau uncovered evidence of fraudulent withdrawals totaling Rs 593 crore across multiple government departments. To date, the bureau has arrested 15 individuals, including bank officials, government employees, and private persons. The Central Bureau of Investigation has now taken over the probe to conduct a deeper investigation into the matter.
