A Patna court on Tuesday extended the protection from arrest granted to Khan Sir, the founder of a popular coaching institute, till July 3 in connection with a case of firing at his institute. The court will also hear the bail applications of two of his security guards, who are currently in judicial custody, on the same date.
Case Background
The case stems from an incident earlier this month when shots were fired at Khan Sir's coaching institute in Patna. Police arrested two security guards soon after the incident, while Khan Sir sought anticipatory bail, fearing arrest. The court had earlier granted him interim protection, which was extended on Tuesday.
According to police, the firing occurred on the premises of the institute, but no one was injured. The motive behind the incident is still under investigation. Khan Sir, whose real name is Khan, is a well-known educator with a large following, especially in Bihar.
Legal Proceedings
During the hearing, the prosecution opposed the extension of protection, arguing that Khan Sir's custodial interrogation was necessary to uncover the full conspiracy. However, the defense counsel contended that Khan Sir was being framed and had no role in the incident.
The court, after hearing both sides, extended the interim protection until July 3 and directed Khan Sir to cooperate with the investigation. The bail applications of the two security guards will be heard on the same day. The guards have been in judicial custody since their arrest.
Impact on Students and Institute
The incident has caused concern among students enrolled at the institute, which prepares candidates for competitive exams. Many students have expressed worry about their safety, though the institute continues to operate. Khan Sir has assured students and parents that all necessary security measures are being taken.
The case has also drawn political attention, with some leaders questioning the law and order situation in Bihar. The state government has maintained that it is handling the matter strictly.
