In a brazen daylight robbery, two masked motorcycle bandits targeted a factory collection agent on Noorwala Road in Ludhiana, making off with more than ₹5 lakh in cash, along with his mobile phone and wallet. The incident occurred while the victim, identified as Jaswinder Singh, a 45-year-old employee of a local garment manufacturer, was conducting his routine weekend collection rounds.
Details of the Robbery
According to police reports, the assailants intercepted Singh as he was riding his motorcycle. They struck him with a blunt weapon, causing him to fall, and then forcibly took his phone and wallet. Upon searching his belongings, the thieves discovered a bag containing the cash collection and promptly fled the scene. To hinder any immediate pursuit, the robbers also removed the ignition keys from Singh's motorcycle.
Speaking about the incident, Singh remarked, "I think they were initially just mobile snatchers. They only noticed the cash bag after taking my personal belongings." This suggests that the robbery may have escalated from a simple snatching to a more serious heist once the perpetrators realized the value of the loot.
Police Response and Investigation
After the attack, Singh managed to borrow a phone from a passerby to alert his employer, who subsequently informed the police. Assistant Sub-Inspector Ranjeev Kumar, who is leading the investigation, confirmed that the police have invoked snatching laws under Section 304 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The authorities have also reviewed CCTV footage from the area, which captured the masked suspects in action.
When questioned about the possibility of an inside job, ASI Kumar stated, "It is too early to tell. The police are probing the case from all angles." The investigation is ongoing, with law enforcement officials examining all potential leads to apprehend the culprits.
