In a significant move providing major relief to government employees, the Telangana state government has released Rs 1,000 crore to clear pending dues. The funds were disbursed on Wednesday following the instructions of Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.
Fulfilling an Assembly Promise
This disbursement fulfills a promise made in the state assembly. The government had earlier committed to releasing Rs 700 crore per month, a figure that has now been increased to Rs 1,000 crore. With this allocation, all pending General Provident Fund (GPF) dues of retired employees up to October 2025 have been cleared, providing substantial relief to many senior citizens who were awaiting their benefits.
Priority on Medical Bills and Scholarships
The government has also prioritized the processing of medical bills and scholarship payments, ensuring that there are no delays in these critical areas. Last year, during discussions with employee unions, the government had promised to release Rs 700 crore per month. Accordingly, the government honored its commitment and made monthly payments up to March 2026.
However, after observing the financial needs and difficulties faced by employees, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti decided to increase the monthly allocation to Rs 1,000 crore starting from the current financial year. As part of this enhanced commitment, Rs 1,000 crore has been released for April. Employee unions have welcomed the release of funds, expressing satisfaction with the government's responsiveness to their concerns.
This financial infusion is expected to ease the burden on retired employees and their families, ensuring timely receipt of their hard-earned benefits. The government's proactive approach in increasing the allocation demonstrates its commitment to the welfare of its workforce.
