In a targeted operation against drug trafficking, the Nawanshahr police arrested two youths and seized a significant quantity of heroin, cash, and a firearm. The arrests took place on Musapur Road near Pir Baba's shrine, following a tip-off and surveillance.
Details of the Seizure
The accused were identified as Lov, alias Gaurav (25), and Rohit, alias Kalu (21), both residents of Valmiki Mohalla, Nawanshahr. During the operation, the police recovered 50 grams of heroin, ₹21,000 in cash believed to be drug money, and a .32 bore pistol loaded with three live cartridges.
According to the police, ASI Ravi Kumar was on patrol with his team when they noticed two young men standing near the canal. The duo attempted to leave hurriedly upon seeing the police vehicle, which raised suspicion. One of the accused threw a transparent polythene packet into nearby bushes. The police apprehended both individuals and retrieved the packet, which contained the heroin and cash. A search of the second accused led to the recovery of the pistol and cartridges.
Legal Action Initiated
The police have registered a case under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Arms Act. The accused are currently in custody and further investigation is underway to determine the source of the drugs and the intended use of the firearm.
This operation highlights the ongoing efforts of the Nawanshahr police to curb drug-related crimes in the region. The recovery of a loaded pistol also raises concerns about the nexus between drug trafficking and illegal arms possession.
